有一次，我去看一位肝癌末期的老先生，他已七十多歲了，腹部水腫，下肢也腫脹，醫生說他最多剩一、二個月的壽命。但我看到他時，他睜大的雙眼，從床上奮力而起，他展現沒把病放在眼裡的樣子，求生的情感與動作十分具有張力。當下，我發現我人心內的執著（即第七識）才是生命中最不服老、最強悍的東西，也最令人擔憂。
Once, I went to see an old man who was diagnosized with terminal liver cancer. He was already over seventy-year-old; his abdominal and lower limbs were swollen too. The doctor said that he had only one to two month left to live. But when I saw him, he opened his eyes widely and struggled out of his bed. He appeared to look down on the effect of the disease on him. His will to survive and behavior are moving. At that moment, I found that people's attachment (i.e., the Seventh Consciousness) is the most dissatisfied with the old age, the most stubborn, and most cause for concern.
